RSSDI - A history of excellence
Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) was founded by
Prof. M.M.S. Ahuja who conceived the idea for establishing the society
for ensuring academic activity and research and holding scientific
meetings, and providing training facilities for research. And so, RSSDI
was registered on July 29, 1972.
The first academic activity of the Society was a symposium-cum-workshop
in Delhi on Etiogenesis of Diabetes Mellitus, between December 19 and
23, 1972. About 30 scientists from various parts of India including two
from abroad participated in this exercise and 22 papers were presented
along with a panel discussion on Biological Characterisation on Insulin.
By 1995, RSSDI became the largest Indian Society of Diabetes Health care
professionals and researchers. In January 2000, the society had 1245
life members representing 25 States and Union Territories of the
country.
